Troubleshooting tips for your Sears water pump when it won't start

  • Check for electrical power. Check the house circuit breaker. Reset the house circuit breaker for the pump if the circuit breaker tripped.
  • Check the pump control settings. Make sure the pump is turned on and the control is set properly.
  • Disconnect electrical power and check wiring. Reconnect any loose wires and repair any broken wires.
  • If these troubleshooting tips don't help, then you may need to replace control parts or the pump motor.

Common Sears water pump parts

  • Pump check valve. The water pump check valve prevents water backflow into the pump.
  • Diffuser. The water pump diffuser controls the flow of water leaving the pump.
  • Magnet housing. The pump magnet housing attaches inside the motor housing and covers the drive magnet that turns the impeller.
  • Pump overhaul kit. The pump overhaul kit includes the parts needed to rebuild the pump. Refer to the parts diagram for a complete list of parts included.
