Time will tell if this fixed my problem

Ice was forming on the evaporator in the ice maker in the refrigerator section of our french door bottom freezer Kenmore made by Frigidaire. When that happened the temp in the ice maker would not get cold enough to freeze the water in the ice tray. I went on Just Answer and the tech there advised me there was a repair kit to fix air leaks that caused the evaporator to freeze up. I bought the kit and had a friend who does appliance repairs help me install it. It was time-consuming and rather difficult. Instructions were fairly complete but could have used more illustrations. Or better yet a video. The new gasket was thicker than the one it replaced so they need to furnish longer screws to attach the air handler to the back of the refrigerator wall. After we were done, it occurred to me that the failure of the defrost system in the icemaker would cause the same problem. If that IS the problem, the ice maker will stop making ice again in a few weeks and I will know to fix the defrost.

New price, used item

I just opened the package and it's very evident that I received a part that has been returned, but that I paid a new price for. Scuff marks and smudges on each of the items. Doesn't even look like it was cleaned. I haven't tried to install the part yet. It doesn't appear that anything is broken but not good customer service at all in my opinion. Paid 79.53 for basically a used part.

Did not fix problem and complicated directions

This air handler was complicated to install. The directions refer to parts and pieces that are not identified in the diagrams so unless you have an extensive knowledge of refrigerators, it's hard to follow. The pieces did not fit together well either. It took me several hours to install and when all was said and done, the original problem was not fixed. I'm having a refrigerator repair company come fix it next week. Additionally, I ordered this item due to a recall on the current fridge I own but I still had to pay for the part and labor was not included. I guess recalls for Sears are different than how car companies handle recalls, covering all costs. At one point I tried calling Sears for assistance and they wanted to charge me $50 to talk on the phone about a part of the directions that was confusing. Overall I was very dissatisfied with the product and the customer service. I will certainly keep this experience in mind when we get a new fridge.
