If the paddle is stuck, not kneading properly or not kneading at all, here are some tips to try

• If the paddle will not operate correctly, it is likely not set properly onto the base of the turning mechanism. Make sure there is no residue inside the paddle; it is very easy for some of the baked bread to remain inside the paddle and around the base.
• Try opening the top while the bread machine is operating. If you can see the paddle turning, then there may be a problem with the dough mixture containing either too much or too little liquid, and your bread machine cannot knead it properly.
• Often, the paddle needs just a few drops of vegetable oil rubbed on the inside portion that sits on the spindle. This keeps it moving freely and lessens the chance that it will get stuck.
• When you open the top and can see the paddle is turning but is not making a full cycle back and forth, remove the paddle and try cleaning it. Clean the base thoroughly in the meantime, taking care to clean every crevice you can reach. Rinse the paddle with clear water before replacing it in the machine.
• If your paddle is stuck in the machine and cannot be removed, try filling your bread pan with very hot water. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes, and then attempt to remove the paddle. The hot water should loosen the paddle to the point where it can be removed.

Troubleshooting your bread maker

• When you turn your machine over, you should see an access cover for the bread spindle shaft. Check your maintenance manual as this shaft does require a few drops of oil regularly to keep the internal gears moving smoothly. Do not try to oil the spindle inside the machine.
• If your bread sticks to the pan and will not come loose from the paddle or the pan, you may need to replace your bread pan. The coating inside a bread pan does not always last as long as your bread machine and if it comes off, bread is not safe to eat and will stick to the pan.
• If your bread machine was working just fine before suddenly stopping, the timing belt likely slipped off the gear attached to the motor shaft. You may need to replace a washer so that the belt cannot slip off easily.
• Occasionally, the paddle wears out and needs to be replaced. The paddle should tightly fit on the spindle and shouldn't slip around. If you notice the motor is running but the paddle is slipping around the spindle, the paddle likely needs replacing.
• Sometimes, you may need to make more than one loaf a day using your bread maker. If the first loaf is done but the machine will not start to make the second loaf, it could just be overheated. Allow it to cool down for at least 30 minutes before attempting to restart.
