You Need the Right Tools
January 23, 2022

Special Tools: ' ~15' combined drive length for socket to reach the 7/16' bolt holding the agitator to spindle. ' Special spanner (TB123B from Appliance Part Pros) to remove the nut holding tub to spindle. ' Automotive scissor jack, 2'x4' cut to tub diameter and spacer block to lift tub off spindle per Youtube instructions. ' Torex T-30 bit to remove bolt that holds motor to transmission. Notes: 1. 7/16' agitator bolt is secured in place with blue Loctite so it is difficult to remove. You have to restrain tub from turning while loosing bolt. 2. I found the tub needed to be lifted off the spindle with an automotive scissor jack. 3. I used a screwdriver to lift retention window on tub cowling outward instead of pushing tabs inward. 4. I used a Dow Chemical O-ring lubricant for the gasket on the transmission and petroleum jelly on the spindle. 5. New gear case is quiet!

Worked like a charm
December 08, 2021

Item came in right on time and worked great. The washer was sounding like an airplane was taking off every time during the spin cycle, now it runs smooth again with no issues. Replacing it was pretty easy, once you get the agitator and water basin off, that was the trickiest part but do a google search and there's a bunch of tips online (I used the scissor car jack and wood plank method and it worked well). You also may need a spanner wrench (mine did) to remove the washer bin retainer nut, so might be a good idea to buy one online beforehand (they're cheap). You'll need to transfer the rotor components over to the new gear case but it's pretty straight forward, see the attached picture.

Washer gearcase. Exactly as advertised

Not hard to install at all. More trouble getting the old one out than installing the new one.

Quick repair
May 01, 2021

This repair is not for a beginner. You may need a special wrench to remove the tub nut and a two by four to bang out the old unit. Other than that it was a straight forward repair.

Works as expected
April 19, 2021

Removal of the old gear case was a pain. Use plenty of WD40, a rubber mallet, and a bottle jack. Makes life much easier. Also, there is a part on the old gear case shaft that must be removed and installed on the new shaft. (From personal experience, the washer does not work without it! Shocking...)

Easy to install
April 19, 2021

Replacing the gear case to my washer was easy. Make sure you have a spanner wrench. The only difficult step is pulling the drum away from the gear case. It form fits and rust almost welds these pieces together. You need a force pulling up on the drum and force pushing down on the gear shaft. Warning: It's a risky step. I pulled up on drum. My son hammered down on the gear shaft. No worries about the gear shaft. You are replacing it.. Springs on outer tub provide absorption of force. A 2x4 and car jack is another alternative I've heard. Be prepared to do a good bit of cleaning if you are so inclined. Lots of mildew buildup. Vinegar & lemon juice mix works wonders.

YouTube helps
March 15, 2021

Took me 3 hours to change the gear case and clutch. Didn't have a spanner wrench so I had to use a hammer and screwdriver to remove spanner but. First time ever working on a washer. YouTube really helps. Works just as good as the day we bought it. Made a horrible noise and leaked. Now it runs so quiet. Glad I bought the parts instead of a new washer. Waaaaay cheaper.
