Replacement Lawn Vacuum Front Wheel (plastic axle)
I was replacing the front wheel on my 12-year-old Craftsman Yard Vacuum 247.770990. It had rubber tire on a plastic wheel with a plastic hub and steel axle bearings inside and out. The hub had cracked sometime in the last dozen years service or on our move, and one steel bearing was loose in the hub. I ordered the replacement part, expecting that I'd get the same wheel. Looking again at the item's picture (and the $25 price tag), I should have EXPECTED a rubber tire on a plastic wheel with a plastic axle bearing, which is what arrived. It was a bit disappointing, but with 20/20 hindsight, I should have realized that replacement parts might have gotten more plastic content in a dozen years. (In defense, it DOES look just as strong or better than the wheels at big box stores.) We'll see how the wheel wears in service. It may outlast something else that will kill the machine. As a backup, I'm going to epoxy the old bearing back into the old wheel hub, and save it for a possible future need.
