Washer: Overfills

Few appliance mishaps are as dramatic as an overflowing washer. A leaking valve on the water inlet valve assembly can allow the washer to fill constantly even with the washer turned off. Unplug the washer and see if water still flows into the washer. If so, then you’ll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly.

A faulty water-level pressure switch can cause the washer to overfill during the cycle. The water level pressure switch is a component of the main electronic control board on some washers. Replace the water-level pressure switch or main electronic control board if the washer overfills during the cycle , but stops filling when you turn the washer off.

These repairs may help solve your Washer problem:

Replace the washer water-level pressure switch

Water-level pressure switch

The water-level pressure switch detects the water level in the wash tub. If the water-level pressure switch is defective, the washer won't fill properly. It could not fill at all or it could overfill even to the point of overflowing. If the pressure switch doesn't accurately detect and control the water level in the washer, replace it.

The water inlet valve assembly is a set of electrically operated water valves that control the fill function in the washer. Replace the water valve assembly if the washer won't fill because a valve doesn't open or if the washer overfills because the valve doesn't close.
