Carburetor rebuild kit

The carburetor rebuild kit includes gaskets, seals, a hinge pin and other components to refurbish the carburetor.

Drive belt

The drive belt connects the engine pulley on the crankshaft to the pulley on the drive gear case. The gear case rotates the wheels to propel the mower.

Drive control cable

The drive control cable connects the drive control bar to the transmission and engages the transmission to move the lawn mower when you push in the control bar.

Flywheel key

The flywheel key is a small metal rectangle that keeps the crankshaft and flywheel aligned when you tighten the flywheel nut. To protect more expensive components from damage, the flywheel key is designed to shear if the mower blade hits an object hard enough to make the flywheel slip out of alignment with the crankshaft.

Front Deck Tray

The front deck tray attaches to the front of the mower deck and supports the front wheel axles. On front-wheel drive, self-propelled mowers, the front deck tray holds the transmission.

Gearcase

The mower gearcase, also called the transmission, uses the power of the motor to turn the wheels of a self-propelled mower.

Ignition Coil

Located next to the flywheel, the ignition coil generates electric current to fire the spark plug when flywheel magnets spin past the ignition coil. The ignition coil sends the electric current to the spark plug at the proper time to ignite the fuel in the cylinder.

Oil

Mower engine oil lubricates the engine to reduce friction and wear.

Recoil starter assembly

Safety switch

The safety switch stops the engine when you release the lever on the handle, by stopping the ignition coil from sparking; it also has a brake pad to slow the flywheel. A failed switch can prevents the ignition coil from sparking the spark plug, causing the mower to not start. It can also let the coil continue sparking when you release the lever; in that case, remove the spark plug until you can replace the switch.

Spark plug

The spark plug ignites the air and fuel mixture in the engine of a gas-powered lawn mower.

Starter rope

The starter rope is a heavy nylon cord that coils around the pulley of the recoil starter. The user pulls it to start the engine. The spring-loaded pulley on the recoil starter retracts the starter rope when the user releases it.

Transmission

The mower transmission, also called the gear case, rotates the axle to drive the wheels and move the wheels of a self-propelled mower.

Wet battery

The wet battery, also called a lead-acid battery, is a medium-to-large lead-acid-filled flooded-cell battery that is vented and rechargeable. It provides electrical power to the lawn mower when started.

Wheel

The wheel of the mower includes the rubber tire and surrounds the wheel axle.
