Chain

The drive motor rotates the chain, which rotates the power screws to move the ram up and down to compact the trash inside the drawer.

Compactor drawer tilt switch

The drawer tilt switch monitors the drawer position and stops or reverses the motor if the ram binds and tilts the drawer during compacting.

Drawer

The drawer slides in and out of the front of the compactor, and contains the trash under the ram for compacting.

Drawer safety switch

The drawer safety switch prevents the compactor from running if the drawer is open.

Drive motor

The drive motor rotates the chain, which rotates the power screws to move the ram up and down to compact the trash inside the drawer.

Foot pedal actuator

The foot pedal actuator is below the drawer. Lifting on the pedal starts the compactor motor.

Lock/off/on start switch

The Lock/Off/ On Start Switch is used to lock and start the trash compactor.

Momentary start switch

The momentary start switch starts the trash compactor motor to compact the trash when you lift the foot pedal. If the momentary start switch is broken, the motor won't run.

Motor centrifugal switch

The motor centrifugal switch reverses the direction in which the motor rotates to change between upward and downward motion.

Power nut

The power nuts are mounted on the sides of the ram and are threaded through the power screws. As the power screws rotate inside the power nuts, the ram travels down the power screws to compact the trash.

Power screw

The power screws are mounted on each side of the ram. As the power screws rotate, the power nuts attached to each side of the ram cause the ram to travel down and up.

Power switch

The power switch turns the trash compactor on so that trash can be compacted in the drawer. If the power switch is broken, the trash compactor won't work at all because it won't get any power.

Ram

The ram is above the compactor drawer and is attached to the power screws. The ram compacts the trash inside the drawer.

Top limit and directional switch

The top limit and directional switch limits the ram’s upward movement and reverses the direction in which the motor rotates when the ram reaches it bottom travel limit. Reversing the motor direction lifts the ram back up after the compacts the trash in the drawer.
