Carburetor

The carburetor mixes air with fuel in the proper proportion to produce a combustible gas. That gas/air mixture is pulled into the cylinder where the piston compresses it and the spark plug ignites it.

Carburetor rebuild kit

The carburetor rebuild kit includes gaskets, seals, a hinge pin and other components to refurbish the carburetor.

Clevis pin

The clevis pin is a shear pin that couples the tines to the rotating tine shaft. The clevis pin is designed to shear off if the tines hit a fixed object during cultivation to prevent damage to the engine and other tiller components.

Clutch cable

The clutch cable connects the clutch control arm to the drive system in the tiller. The clutch cable also controls the drive system on the tiller.

Crankshaft

The crankshaft is a keyed shaft on the engine that rotates the engine pulley to move the drive belt of the tiller.

Depth stake

The depth stake is a metal stake attached to the tiller near the tines. Raise or lower the depth stake to control the tilling depth.

Drive belt

The drive belt is a heavy-duty belt that connects the engine pulley to the transmission to drive components such as the wheels and the tines.

Recoil starter

The recoil starter is a starter system mounted on top of the engine that consists of a rope and spring-loaded pulley system. The person operating the tiller pulls the starter rope, which rotates the spring-loaded pulley and spins the crankshaft to start the engine.

Side shields

Side shields are metal plates attached to the sides of the tine shield that guide the tilled soil into even rows.

Spark plug

The spark plug ignites the air and fuel mixture in the engine of a gas-powered tiller.

Starter rope

The self-retracting starter rope coils around a spring-loaded pulley on the top of the crankshaft. The person operating the tiller pulls the starter rope, which rotates the spring-loaded pulley and spins the crankshaft to start the engine.

Tine shield

The tine shield is the metal cover over the tines that prevent soil from spraying upward during tilling.

Tines

The tiller tines are rotating metal cultivating blades that dig into the earth and turn over the dirt to prepare for planting or to incorporate soil amendments.
