Higher Power
The machine would erratically stop agitating with all cycles & speeds, and the rinse cycle wouldn't open the softener compartment, and using a fist on the knob wasn't the best policy. The machine was new in 1994. This part, along with patience in extracting the two rusted front panel screws, opened new pathways to sartorial excellence, and I am now transferring my agitation to the clothing, where it belongs. Note the front knob unscrews; the front plastic shield(s) slide off, and expose the two mounting screws. PS replace the knob if it still has plastic threads; mine was good. The timer mounting screws (old) were of size 10-32; the new timer holes may be 5 mm, but I tapped the new timer to fit old screws. You may wish to use 5 mm if the old screws don't start in the threads. Also the lamp over the knob was burnt out; this is a good time to replace it. I wrote time spent as "1-2 hours", mostly spent slowly removing the two rusted screws. A half hour would be more accurate, given a newer machine. #winWin
