I bought this part because my dishwasher door was dropping like a rock when opened. By looking in with a flashlight from the side I could see that the string had been severed. “Manufacturing defect?” I wondered. While curious to me, I ordered the part anyway. When it arrived I pulled the dishwasher out to find mouse-droppings all over the insulation. A mouse had been camping out for a while, and had chewed the dishwasher dampener-cord thingie in half! Mystery Solved! Not the manufacturer, but Mickey Mouse!
Installation itself was relatively simple. Attach the cord to the spring, then pull and maintain tension on the spring while snaking it through the tension wheels before hooking it onto the bar/hook thing attached to the door (look at the other side, and make them look the same). I did loop another line around the spring to help hold the tension, so I could get enough slack to work at the other end of the line.
