Popcorn Popper Parts

Your popcorn popping machine uses a number of different kinds of parts that have to work together under extreme conditions to produce delicious popcorn. There are electronic and mechanical parts that operate in excessively hot and oily conditions. These conditions can wear down the gears and parts that stir the corn kernels while heating. The extreme conditions can also damage the thermostat, leaving kernels scorched or un-popped.

How do you disassemble your popcorn popper?

In order to take apart your appliance, you will need screwdrivers and wrenches.

  • First, unplug the popper and remove any trays or extra pieces that are not a part of the main unit. Turn the unit upside down and remove the screws from the bottom.
  • If it is an air popper, remove the chute from the base and find the screws holding the motor in place. If it is an oil popper, remove the baseplate to expose the motor.
  • On air poppers, you will need to remove the motor base and detach the motor from the impeller housing to reveal the heating element and electronics. On oil poppers, the electronics should be next to the motor.
  • For either type of popper, you can now use a multimeter to test the motor, heating apparatus and control board components for continuity. Remove and replace any faulty components.
  • After replacing faulty parts, put the popcorn popper back together by reversing the disassembly steps.
