Dirt Devil Parts

If your Dirt Devil isn't cleaning efficiently or the brush roll is stuck or not spinning, there may be a few reasons why. Unplug the vacuum and inspect the brush roller. If there is any debris or hair stuck around the brush roller or inside the housing, try to clean it out to keep the vacuum working.

Common problems with Dirt Devils

If the vacuum isn't clogged, make sure the belt is connected to the roller and to the drive motor pulley. A broken belt will not be able to spin the roller at all and need to be replaced. If the roller is damaged and incapable of spinning, you'll need to replace it.

Dirt Devil parts that often need replacing

  1. Brush roller—The brush roller, also known as the beater bar or brush bar, sits in the vacuum base and is connected to the drive motor pulley by the drive belt. The brush bar will need to be replaced if it's damaged or broken.
  2. Drive belt—The drive belt is a rubber belt that attaches to the drive motor pulley and spins the brush roller. You'll need to replace the belt if it is cracked or damaged.
  3. Motor—The motor spins the drive motor pulley, which in turn spins the drive belt around the brush roller. If the motor doesn't turn on or it has seized up, it will need replacing.
  4. Lower base—The lower base housing is where the brush roller and drive belt are located. If the pieces holding the brush roller in place are damaged or broken, you may need to replace them.
  5. Power switch—The power switch on the handle turns on the motor. If there's electricity powering the vacuum but the motor doesn't turn on, the power switch may need to be replaced.
  6. Power cord—The prongs on the male end of the power cord or the wires inside the vacuum may come loose over time. If the outlet is working but the vacuum is running intermittently or won't turn on at all, you may need to replace the power cord.
