Clothes dryers are a huge improvement over hanging clothes on a line, but modern dryers sometimes need maintenance. When your dryer starts then stops, or if it stops working altogether, it may be necessary to repair or replace the defective components using new Hotpoint dryer parts.
Most dryers are set by twisting a knob on the control panel. This knob is connected to a timer motor that slowly turns to measure out the time the dryer has to run. It is one of the dryer repair parts most likely to need replacing, as it gets some of the heaviest use. A worn-out timer causes the dryer to shut off prematurely, and it can even prevent the dryer from starting at all.
The electronic control board determines how and when the dryer switches between functions. Since it is electronic, it can short out or otherwise malfunction. As part of your dryer troubleshooting, check this board for scorch marks or other obvious signs of damage. If you suspect the control board, have it professionally tested before replacing it.
Sometimes, the simplest explanation for a dryer malfunction is the correct one. If your dryer isn't starting at all, check to make sure the cord is plugged in and properly seated in the outlet. Examine the cord's insulation for splits, cracks or other damage, which could indicate a hard or intermittent short.
