Why is my GE Monogram double wall oven dead?

A:

Since the upper oven has a magnetron and high voltage capacitor, I do not recommend that you attempt to perform any further diagnosis or testing on this oven yourself. A high voltage capacitor in the upper oven will retain a 4400 volt charge even when the breaker is shut off and the oven is completely disconnected from electrical power. A microwave radiation leakage test will need to be performed on this oven using proper testing equipment following any repair. I recommend that you call a service technician to diagnose and repair this oven.

You could have a main power board failure or a failed magnetron TCO that is preventing any of your display boards from lighting up. The lower oven light is powered directly from the L1 power supply. Neutral is applied to this circuit when the door is open and the plunger switch closes a contact to the neutral connection. This is likely why only the lower oven light works. This indicates that your problem with the display boards powering up is not likely a voltage supply problem. The technician will have wiring schematics and technical information to diagnose and repair the cause of your failure.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

This oven should be diagnosed by a service technician. The failure could be just a loose ribbon connection on the main logic board where all the flat ribbon connections are connected. I would disconnect and re-connect the ribbon connectors and then see if the non-working buttons will work. If they don't, it could have a faulty main logic board (key#17), touch glass signal board or the glass touch panel. The main logic board is most likely failure if there are no loose or bad ribbon connections. These parts cannot be returned if installed and this is why I strongly suggest having a service technician diagnose the failure. If the technician orders and installs a part and it doesn't repair it, then you would not be stuck with a part that did not fix it. 

NOTE: There should be a tech sheet in the control panel area too that would have come supplied with the oven you can reference if you decide to attempt to diagnose and repair the issue. Be sure and disconnect the power source from the oven before servicing.

Robin: The glass signal board processes the commands of the glass touch panel. As far as what part key#999 is, these parts are non- illustrated but the parts list gives a description of where the harness connects.
