Question and Answers

Q:

My GE washer model # WPSR3100W0WW fills w/ water but will not agitate. I was able to get water to drain out.

A:

Since the motor runs in the spin mode, the motor and the lid switch are apparently okay. It is possible that you have a problem with the pressure switch or that you have a wiring failure in the circuit used for agitation. The image below shows a wiring diagram with that agitation circuit traced in red. If you are able to unplug the washer and access that water level pressure switch, you can connect the yellow-black wire and the violet wire together (or connect them with an insulated jumper wire) for a brief test. The second image provides access information for components in your washer. Tape the connection with electrical tape so that it will not short to the metal cabinet. Position the timer in the agitate mode. Open the lid. Plug the washer in. Briefly close the lid to see if the motor runs in the agitate model with that water level switch contact bypassed. If it does, then replacing that water level pressure switch (part WH12X10068) should fix this agitation problem. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. If the washer still wont' agitate, you could have a wiring failure or a bad speed switch on that motor. You can examine the wiring using the wiring diagram in the first image as a guide.
