Question and Answers

Washer wont aggitate!

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I do not have enough details in order to confirm if the motor is starting after it fills or not. I also must assume the washer will drain and the basket will spin.

The noise issue and the no agitate issue could be caused by a worn clutch slipping if the motor is actually running after it completes the fill cycle. It would be difficult to say what has failed without being there to listen and to watch the motor and clutch operation.

If the motor will start and run after the washer fills and the agitator is not stroking back and forth, it may have a gearcase failure or the agitate air bell coupling is worn and stripped.

If the motor does not start after the tub as filled with water, it could have a faulty timer, motor or a loose wire connection.

I recommend removing the agitator to see if the air bell agitator coupler is stripped first. I added the technical data sheet in the image below with the procedure of removing the agitator and air bell.

If the air bell coupler is not stripped, I strongly suggest calling a service technician with the proper equipment and training to diagnose and repair your GE washer.

Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
