Question and Answers

Q:

My GE washer model WJRE5500G2WW will not spin. What could the actual problem be?

A:

Based on your symptoms, I suspect that you have a failed lid switch. You indicated that the washer will not spin. I assume that it will agitate. Replacing the lid switch will likely fix this problem. The first image below shows the procedure for accessing the lid switch. NOTE: Your lid switch will look slightly different than the one shown in the procedure. I provided a photo of the lid switch for your model of washer beside the procedure. Be sure that you unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components. Also, internal metal edges in the washer can be sharp. Protective gloves are recommended.

The part number for the lid switch is WH12X10334. You can order it from the Sears PartsDirect website. Replacing the lid switch should fix this washer problem based on your symptoms.

If you replace the lid switch and still have problems then you may have a failure in the motor/inverter. I provided technical information about the drive system for this washer in the second and third images. You may be able to use this information to diagnose and repair the washer. NOTE: This information is intended for technicians. Diagnosing a problem with the motor/inverter will normally involve running the washer with the front panel removed. Extreme caution should be used if you conduct this type of test. Avoid making contact with any live wires or connections when the washer is plugged in with internal components exposed. Unplug the washer when the test is complete and whenever internal components are exposed.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
