Question and Answers

Q:

GE washer model number WHRE5550K2WW

A:

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life. I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

This washer has a test routine you can run that will help in the diagnosis of any problems the control detects. If the control detects a problem it will identify it with an error code. I am including this information in a set of images below. Additionally, the reset on this washer is a little more involved than unplugging it and then plugging it back in. To clear any recorded errors in Positions 2 or 3, press the Start/Pause button while in the appropriate position (this is explained in the information I gave you in the images below).

Please perform the diagnostic tests detailed here and report back with your findings. Be sure to record any failures and when they occur along with any error codes that are displayed. I am looking forward to assisting you again in the near future.

This is a complicated washer to run diagnostics on as well as repair, if you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram and for parts purchases; Sears Parts Direct .

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.

Q:

Whats wrong with my washer (model# WHRE5550K2WW) serial # SS1341446

A:

Hi Shonda,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The first thing I recommend is checking the motor for error codes. To do this you will need to remove the front panel. I am including a set of images below that will show you how to remove the panel and read the error codes. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or purchase any parts needed for your appliance; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance please reply to this post with details of what you find.

Q:

I have a GE top load washer Model#WHRE5550K2WW and we cannot get it to start.

A:

I posted the chart for the blinking light on the motor in the first image below this response. I assume that it is blinking 1 second on and 1 second off to indicate that it is in regular standby mode.

To clear error codes, you will need to follow this procedure:

  1. Disconnect power for 1 minute. You should hear a clicking sound after about 15 seconds that indicates the capacitor is discharged.
  2. Plug the washer back in to power it up.
  3. Within 30 seconds of powering the washer back up, open and close the lid at least 5 times within a 12 second period (fairly quickly).
This procedure may be the one that you described in your details. You can try to use that procedure to reset the control board if the control system had a problem that is now corrected.

If you reset the control using the above procedure and the washer still will not start, then you could a problem with the control board, the fill valves or other components. You can try to run the diagnostic test that is shown in the second image below.

If that diagnostic test does not help you find the cause of this failure then you will probably need to use the information in the third image. Note: That information in the third image describes live voltage testing. You should only check that live voltage if you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely measure it using a volt/ohm meter. Wear electrical safety gloves and safety goggles when checking that live voltage. Unplug the washer as soon as live testing is completed .

When you press the Start button, the washer should begin to fill. You can press Start and then check the issues shown in that third image. The 4th image has a wiring diagram marked with the test points. Be sure that you unplug the washer when checking resistance and when live voltage testing is completed. If that main control board is bad, then it will need to be replaced.

You can order parts from this page: GE Washer Model WHRE5550K2WW Parts . Unplug the washer before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

If you need more help, reply with additional details based on the above test.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

I posted some access information for that type of washer in the image below. Your washer may be slightly different but the access information will probably be similar. Be sure that you UNPLUG the washer before accessing internal components. I am not sure which part that you are referring to. Reply with additional details (part number) and the symptoms of your problem if you need more assistance.
