Question and Answers

Q:

Why does the belt on my new Proform 480 treadmill squeak?

A:

Squeaks and other noises are usually caused by bolts that are not tight enough or resistance cones that weren't lubricated properly.

Inspect the bolts you installed when assembling the treadmill for tightness.

Walk on the treadmill and get someone to listen to try to locate where the noise is coming from. This will narrow down the possibilities of where the noise is coming from.

Q:

Question about a proform treadmill crosswalk 480

A:

Thank you for your question. I am sorry you are having a problem with the treadmill. I will be happy to assist you with the repair. By what you have stated I suspect one of the wire connectors is loose. First, move the treadmill to a different outlet and check the operation. If the treadmill does the same thing, I recommend checking the wire connections on the control board. Of course, make sure it is unplugged first. After checking the connections plug, the unit back in and check the operation. If light still goes out you will have to check the voltage at the control board. Working with live electrical current can be very hazardous and possibly deadly. Testing voltage output requires working with electrical current. Do not attempt this measurement without the proper tools and safeguards. If you are comfortable checking live voltage, turn the meter to check ac volts. Then place the meter leads on the AC+ and AC- on the control. You should have a reading of 110 volts AC. If the voltage is there keep the leads in place and start the treadmill. If the voltage stays the same and the light goes out the should be replaced. Here is a link to order any parts you need. Sears Parts Direct . Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

My water softener purchased in 2006, does it need to have resin changed

A:

Thank you for your question on the resin bed for the water softener.

If it successfully going through the regeneration cycle and you still have little or no soft water then you may need to change the worn out resin bed. This depends on how aggressive you water is as to how fast the resin ages out.

It will usually last ten years but the type of water does make a difference.

You can check the resin if you remove the rotary head off the top of the softener and then lift out the top distributor and pinch some of the resin beads. If they turn to mush when you pinch then it will need replacing.

You could try soom resin bed cleaner to see if that will help.
