I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. The mower should have a gap between the friction plate and the friction wheel. When you push the drive pedal down it pulls a cable and moves the friction wheel into the friction plate. If the friction wheel is not moving towards the plate when you push the pedal, I recommend checking the cable between the pedal and the drive assembly. If the cable is broken, you can order the replacement cable from the following link. Craftsman tractor parts I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance. Mark

Q:

The engine is surging, I have new fuel, spark plug is good and clean, throttle appears to be operating correctly. WELRVBA30 Weedeater Riding mower

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the engine on the mower. Usually when these types of engines surge it is because they are not getting enough fuel. To verify this I recommend running the engine at full speed. When the engine surges slowly move the throttle lever to the choke position. If the engine smoothes out with it slightly choked, the problem is the engine is not getting enough fuel. The main jet being partly plugged usually causes this. To cure this type of problem, the carburetor needs to be cleaned. I have found a site that shows how to rebuild the carburetor.Click here to be taken to the site.

Before removing the carburetor and taking it completely apart I recommend removing the float bowl and cleaning the main jet with a thin wire and carburetor cleaner. Once you have the jet cleaned, reassemble the carburetor and check the operation.

Please be sure to work in a well ventilated area and use caution around fuel.

I hope this is helpful.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
