Question and Answers

Q:

dryer not heating

A:

The diagnostic test for this dryer has a mode that will test for the L2 leg of voltage that should be supplied to the dryer. That test is shown in the first image below. I recommend that you check that issue first. If the L2 leg is not supplied to the dryer according to that test, then I recommend that you check the live voltage at the dryer outlet. The second image should guide you in making that check. NOTE: You should only check that live outlet voltage if you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely measure it. Wear proper safety equipment (electrical safety gloves and safety goggles) when checking that live outlet voltage . Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need to have a service technician check that outlet voltage: Sears Home Services .

If that outlet voltage is okay and you are detecting no L2 voltage in that diagnostic test, then you could have a wiring failure in the outlet cord or in the dryer. The third image shows the wiring diagram for the dryer with that heating circuit traced in red. You can unplug the dryer and check that outlet cord and the wiring connections on the terminal block if necessary.

If you find no problems with that L2 leg of voltage in that diagnostic test, then you can follow the troubleshooting steps shown in the 4th image below to check that heating circuit. Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components.

If needed, you can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.
