Question and Answers

Q:

Washer made a loud bang and drum is hanging low WCVH6800J0WW Ge Washer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The tub assembly is suspended with two suspension springs at the top of the tub and has 4 dampers at bottom of the tub which connects to the base. These components will need to be checked. The front lower access panel can be taken off by removing the three Phillips head screws along the bottom of the panel. The top panel can also be removed. To remove the top panel:

  1. Remove the 3 Phillips-head screws that attach the top cover, then pull the cover rearward. Note: It may be helpful to place a putty knife along the top seam between the cover and control panel, then tap lightly rearward.
  2. Remove the 3 (7-mm) hex-head screws that attach the rear of the top panel to the cabinet.
  3. Slide the top panel rearward 1 inch then lift the panel.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

If it's the spin basket that has appeared to have dropped down, it could have a broken spinner support which connects the spin basket to the spin shaft. You can open the door and push upwards on the front of the spin basket and make note of any up and down play. Rotate the spin basket about 1/4 of a revolution and push up again and continue doing this until you have made a complete revolution. If it appears to have more up and down play at any given point, the basket assembly may be broken from the support/shaft assembly.

I would also remove the rear panel and check to see if the belt has derailed. If it has, it will likely need a new rear tub assembly and possibly a new spin basket.

I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your GE front loading washer. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
