Question and Answers

Q:

What would cause my washer to stop agitating but will spin?

A:

You did not indicate if the drive motor will run or not during the agitation mode. If the motor will run, most likely the air bell coupling is stripped. The air bell coupling connects the agitator to the transmission agitate shaft. To check for a stripped air bell coupler lift the agitator up and off. It will be on tight.

If the motor will run in the agitation mode and the agitator is not trying to move at all that could indicate a transmission failure.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.

To gain access to the transmission and motor the front panel will come off. To remove front panel:

  1. Locate 2 spring clips between the top cover and the front panel by aligning a putty knife with the groove on either side of the lid.
  2. Insert the putty knife and push to release clips.
  3. Rotate the front panel forward and lift off the cabinet base locating tabs.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.
