Q:

Fisher & Paykel Elba Washer model#WA37T26EW2- error code 37- pump blocked error

A:

Hi Sarah,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

You are correct the error code 37 is a pump error. The tech sheet states "No Change in Water Level (Blocked Pump). Machine has not drained out. Check that the pump is not blocked or that the drain hose outlet is not crushed or blocked or drain hose outlet is too high (maximum is 7 feet)". Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. You will need to ensure that the drain hose and diverter valve are clear. Make sure this is not a siphon issue; the drain hose should be no more than 6 inches into the stand pipe and have an air gap. This can also be caused when the washer is full of suds.

Make sure you are running the diagnostics correctly to check the drain pump operation. if the drain pump is not blocked, but will not run in diagnostics, you will most likely need to replace the drain pump.

To Select DIAGNOSTIC MODE Turn the power on at the supply point and off at the console. Press and Hold the WASH TEMP DOWN button and then press the POWER button until the machine gives 2 short beeps and lights up.

Drain Pump Test Press the REGULAR button to turn the pump on and off.

If the drain pump (part number 479595) is not moving water, you will need to ohm the drain pump and diverter (part number 426862P). Pump = 7 ohms. Recirculation Valve (diverter) = between 700 and 2.5K ohms. If either of these read outside this, I recommend replacing these parts.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or to purchase any parts needed; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance, include more details in a reply to this post.

Hello Jeff. Your details indicate that you may have a problem with that diverter valve sticking in the recirc position. I posted some information about that diagnostic test procedure for the recirc valve in the image below. It also has technical information about that valve and the drain pump. I recommend that you check the operation of that recirc valve in the diagnostic test mode. If the drain path is clear and the diverter valve will not switch to the drain mode (it will take 3 minutes to switch once it is set to the recirc mode) then you will probably need to replace that diverter valve. Be sure that you unplug the washer to disable the diagnostic test mode when you complete the testing procedure. If you need more help, let us know.

Make sure thart the washer drain is clear and that it drains out properly. Pour some water down that drain to check that issue. You can remove the drain hose and run water through it to make sure that the path is clear.

I think that you are correct about that control board. That control board costs about $175. It will probably be difficult to sell the washer on Craigslist. You may have been able to sell some parts if it was a more common model. I recommend that you have it hauled in this situation.

Q:

elba washing machine won't drain

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It will need to drain before it will spin. If you are not hearing the drain pump motor running when it should be draining, it could have a jammed drain pump, a faulty drain pump or a faulty motor control board. A drain pump motor failure can also take out the control board.

If the drain pump is not jammed or blocked, the drain pump motor can be disconnected from under the tub and the motor windings can be tested for resistance with an Ohm meter. It should measure 7 Ohms plus or minus 8%. If it measures approximately 7 Ohms; plus or minus 8% and you have experience and feel safe and confident in measuring the voltage supply to the drain pump, it should measure 120 volts. If you do not measure any voltage, I suspect a faulty motor control board.

I added a couple of images below. One image shows how to access the pump impeller to see if it's jammed. The second image shows how to turn the drain pump on and off. The third image shows where the voltage to the drain pump is connected at the motor control board. The voltage to the drain pump can also be measured as shown in the third image. NOTE: I do not recommend measuring voltage unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I strongly suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
