Q:

Im having issues getting my infrared sensors to operate the door. Can I disconnect this part, and gargare door still operate properly?

A:

Those links for previous answers that Marc H. posted in the above response correctly indicate that you cannot bypass those sensors. You can test them with short pieces of wire. If you use some short runs of wire and connect the sensors to the motor unit and hold them an inch or so apart then test the garage door operation, you should be able to tell if the sensors and the motor unit/logic board are good. You should not use that process to bypass the sensors. If the sensors work properly when tested in the above manner then you probably have a wiring failure between the motor unit and the sensors when they are installed on the rails at the bottom of the door opening. If the opener does not work properly when those sensors are tested in that manner, then you could have a problem with the sensors or the logic control board in the opener.

I hope that this information helps.

Q:

I first got err 1, after trying fixes ended up with err 3, more fixes ended with faceplate reading of sr--- & will not change or start motor.

A:

You can try to reset the SR-21 using the procedure shown in the image below. This procedure is shown in the owner's manual on page 17. Your details seem to indicate that you have the owner's manual. Here is a link for the owner's manual in case you need it: Owner's Manual . This owner's manual provides extensive technical information that can normally help you diagnose and repair most water softener problems.

There is a possibility that the control will not reset due to an errant signal from the position switch. You could also have a bad control board (timer) in the water softener. If you are not able to program the timer using the information in the owner's manual, then it will likely need to be replaced. The part number for the timer is 7256872. You can order it from the Sears PartsDirect website. It costs $165.99 (not including tax, shipping and handling). Be sure that you unplug the water softener before accessing internal components.

NOTE: Kenmore has this website that provides additional technical help for water softeners: KenmoreWater.com . You can also call Kenmore for water softener help at 1-800-426-9345.

These tips may help you resolve this water softener problem. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
