Question and Answers

Q:

Whirlpool Gas Oven - Oven Burner Problem

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details it sounds like the glow bar igniter is weak and needs to be replaced. If the glow bar igniter is weak it will not pull enough current/amperage in order for the oven safety valve to open.

The soot could be caused by the oven not being converted to LP gas or the air shutter for the bake burner may need to be opened a little. If the range has been converted to LP and the oven used to operate normally then I recommend replacing the oven igniter first and then see how it operates.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

The igniter is part #98005652 and can be ordered from Sears PartsDirect .
