Q:

What can cause a TV not to turn on after soldering in a new convergence IC?

A:

On your previous question to Manage My Home we confirmed you had the correct part number off the Mitsubishi site, and you also told us that it was just the blue that was out of convergence. This tells me that you had a picture with just blue off, and that you're fuses were probably ok before putting in the new chip.

One thing to do is to check to see why the TV is shutting down. unplug it and plug it back in, wait 70 seconds for the green led to stop blinking, then turn it on and let it shut back down. Without unplugging it, hold down input and menu for 10 seconds until the power led blinks red. I suspect you'll get 2 slow and 2 red. If you get anything other than a 2 – 2, I'd have the connections checked before doing anything.

Knowing as little as I do about this repair my first instinct would be to go over the solder with a magnifying glass and look for any solder splash. It doesn’t have to be gunked across several pins to create a short, just a trail of solder as you lifted the needle can conduct between pins. If there was a short, then the fuse should have caught it. The resistance should read short for fuses F9A04 and F9A05. Also the return resistors should be checked, they are the 3.9 2w that are generally lined up near the IC heatsink.

I was unaware that you were doing this repair alone. The previous question didn't lead me to assume this. This repair is generally considered to be on the low end of labor charges. I'd get some estimates so you could do a cost benefit comparison for doing this yourself or having someone who has more material available to them do it. Please be careful there’s is high voltage in this set.

Q:

Is it difficult to replace the convergence IC on my TV?

A:

It is difficult to replace the convergence IC's for someone who is not familiar with it. It is recommended that you have a service tech work on your TV. Only one needs to be replaced but usually 2 are ordered and any resistor that measures high or looks browned gets replaced as well. I gave the parts on your previous question as a guide to what you were probably looking at.

I do not have a service manual to give you. I have this link to your owner's manual here . If the red convergence cannot be adjusted manually through the owners menu on page 17 then having the service manual will not help much. You had asked previously for the service manual because you were looking for a part. I assumed it was related to your red convergence and the symptom was indeed related to the convergence circuit. If you can please send another email with more detail and what specifically you are looking for so I can assist you.

Q:

manual

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. It looks like they have a 2010 and a 2012 model of these ellipticals. Once you know which one you have click on this link to down load the manual. If you are not sure, load both of them and use the one closest to yours.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
