Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't the left front burner on my gas stove ignite properly?

A:

Before replacing parts, I recommend the following troubleshooting that may fix your problem:

  • You did not indicate whether the left front burner will ignite if you carefully use a match or lighter. If you can light the burner manually, then the gas supply to this burner is verified as good. Check the charge ports and clean them if necessary as described in the first image below to make sure that they are not clogged.
  • Check to see if the spark electrode is working when the front left burner is switched on. If not, you could have a switch problem or a wiring failure that is that is preventing the left front burner from igniting. If you are able to safely access internal range components, unplug the range and check the wiring in the spark ignition circuit. The wiring schematic for this circuit is provided below. If you have a volt/ohm meter, you can check the continuity through the left front burner ignition switch if necessary. If the switch is bad, it will need to be replaced.
These tips may help you diagnose your left front burner ignition failure.
