Q:

My Maytag oven model mer5555qaw will not heat above 185 deg. Why?

A:

Look closely at the temperature display on the clock. If there is a C after the temperature your range is cooking in Centigrade. To change back to Fahrenheit hold the cancel and bake pads at the same time for 3-5 seconds then press more + or less - once and the C should change to an F. Wait one minute and the control will remember the change.

If you have an F after the temperature in the display, the control board in the range has failed.

Q:

Can Whirlpool ice maker W1012250 (185w rating) be used to replace 2198597 (260w) for a Kenmore 106 model refrigerator?

A:

I would need the specific model number of your Kenmore 106 refrigerator to determine whether this would be a valid substitution. I checked several different models of Kenmore 106 refrigerators. I do not see the ice maker part W1012250 substituting for the original part (2198597) in the Kenmore 106 refrigerators that I looked at. I recommend replacing the ice maker with the original part unless the substitution is called for by the manufacturer.

The difference in wattage rating would not likely cause a problem with other components if it is a valid substitution.

Resubmit your question with the full model number of your refrigerator for more help with this problem.

Q:

How do I fix my oven?

A:

That link for a previous answer that Priscilla V. posted in the above response covers a similar problem in a Maytag range. In that situation, the control was set to the Celsius temperature setting. If you suspect that your control is on that Celsius setting, then you can use the procedure shown below to change it back to Fahrenheit.

If that is not causing your problem, then you could have a failure in the electronic control board. You could also have a bad DLB (Double Line Break) relay, a wiring failure or a problem with the oven temperature sensor probe. I posted a wiring diagram for the oven portion of that range. The circuit through the broil element is traced in wire colors. The electronic oven control board will supply the element with L1 voltage through that yellow wire. The 120 volts of L2 voltage is applied through the DLB relay. To check the electronic oven control board relay, you would need to unplug the range and access the control board. You would then need to put on some electrical safety gloves and safety goggles. Plug the range in to restore power and program the clock. Set the oven in the bake mode and check the voltage coming out of the bake relay on that yellow wires shown on the wiring diagram below. Unplug the range as soon as that brief test is completed. If that electronic control board is applying voltage to that circuit (120 volts AC) then that component is okay. If you are not getting the L2 leg of voltage through that DLB relay to the bake element when the oven is set in the bake mode then that DLB relay will probably need to be replaced.

Here is a direct link for the online parts diagram listing for that range: Kenmore Elite Range Model 790.75503202 Parts . You can order parts from that page if necessary.

I hope that this additional information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
