How do I change the belt on a Maytag dryer model PYG4558AWW?


I provided some photos and procedures in the image below that should help you replace the belt on this model of Maytag dryer. Be sure that you unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply before beginning this process. Here are the basic steps:

  1. Unplug the dryer and shut off the gas supply.
  2. Lift the top panel as shown in the image below.
  3. Remove the front panel.
  4. Remove the blower duct.
  5. Remove the front bulkhead.
You should then be able to remove the old belt and position the new belt on the motor and idler pulley. I provided a diagram for the routing of the belt over the motor pulley and through the idler pulley.

This is not an easy repair for this type of dryer. The images and procedures below may help you to an extent that you can do it yourself. If you are not certain that you can safely complete this repair, I recommend calling a service technician.
