Question and Answers

Q:

How do I remove the front of Maytag dryer model PYET244AYW to replace the drum belt?

A:

Unplug the dryer to disconnect electrical power. The first step in removing the front panel is to hinge up the top panel of the dryer. Push a putty knife in between the top panel and the front panel as shown in the image below to release the clip on each side and then lift the top panel up. Prop the top panel securely against the wall behind the dryer so that it will not fall back down. Unplug the door switch wiring harness. I do not have specific information on how the front panel is attached to this dryer. It appears that it is secured by clips at the bottom of the front panel and by pins on each side of the front panel that secure it to the front of the side panels of the frame. Once you have the top panel hinged up, you should be able to see and release the fasteners. You may find screws at the top of the front panel on each side. Remove any screws that you find holding the top panel. To release the bottom clips, you will need to push down and pull the panel forward to release the clip and possibly any pins securing the front panel to the dryer frame.

These tips should help you remove the front panel to access and replace the drive belt. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

Q:

Washer does not spin

A:

That model number that you provided is for a Maytag dryer. The matching washer to that dryer is a Maytag Performa Series washing machine. In that type of washer, the spin failure could be caused by a problem with the motor or the drive assembly. Special tools are normally needed to replace components in that type of washer. If you have a Maytag Performa washer, I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair that spin failure. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you need more help, reply with additional details and the full model number (and serial number) of your Maytag washer.

Q:

Maytag Dryer

A:

Hi Mike,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life. I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

A "thermal event" must occur to blow the thermal fuse. Any thing that restricts air flow can cause the fuse to blow. A dirty vent, exterior hood flaps not opening, loose or broken blower wheel or a dirty lint filter. If you use fabric softener it can coat the screen and drastically reduce air flow. Clean it with soap and water.

The most likely cause of a thermal fuse blowing that quickly is a vent restriction. Make sure the vent is clear from the dryer to the outside exhaust hood.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this is helpful. Check the things I have covered here, and if I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.
