Question and Answers

Q:

Why is my Craftsman;675 series B&S engine noisy and vibrating as if it wants to jump out?

A:

Thank you for your question.

Usually when the engine is vibrating, it is because of a loose blade, bent blade or crankshaft. First, remove the spark plug and tip the mower with the muffler up. With gloved hands, inspect the blade. If it is bent, replace the blade and check the operation. If the engine continues to vibrate, I suspect the crankshaft is bent or there is an internal problem with the engine.

Q:

Oddities with my 917 series 725 B&S RWD lawnmower

A:

Thank you for your question on the difficulty of pulling the mower backwards.

You may want to loosen the turnbuckle for the drive system.

Because it is so new it may be a set a little too tight and the belt is not totally releasing from the drive lever.

Also on some models if you release the drive handle and push the mower forward slightly then pull it backwards so see if it will move backwards more easily.

Please let me know how it turns out and if we need to look further for an adjustment.

Q:

How do I change the paper air filter on my 550 series B&S 21" rear discharge mower 917.388460?

A:

The owners manuals are confusing sometimes. The information about replacing the paper air filter is for the models that use a paper filter. Owners manuals are written to cover several models of mowers to save money. I am apologize for the confusion.

Your mower has the large foam filter on top of the carburetor. It does not have a paper filter. Cleaning and oiling the foam filter is all you need to do to your mower.
