Question and Answers

I have a Frigidaire gas stove top model PLGC30S9ECA that seems to have a faulty igniter system. I see a spark but it is not always to the burner I select.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It is normal operation for all 4 electrodes to jump spark between the electrode and the burner whenever anyone burner is rotated to the "lite" position. If the ceramic insulator at the bottom of the electrodes is cracked, the spark can jump to nearest ground instead of the burner. The burner base and cap must be making a good ground or the spark will fluctuate looking for closest ground. Spark modules will normally become weak or not spark at all when they fail. You issue is not likely a weak or faulty spark module but more of lack of a good grounded burner base or the ceramic insulator is cracked on the electrode.

I have seen the wires attached between the spark module and the electrodes spark between the wire insulation and the metal ground if the burner base is not making a good ground to the top. Also, make sure the cooktop is connected to a grounded outlet.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
