Question and Answers

Q:

in self cleaning my Fridigaire oven the inner glass cracked, what could have caused that?

A:

It is difficult to predict the cause of your failure regarding that oven door inner glass. There is a possibility that the oven had spills or deposits that were being burned off during the self clean cycle could have caused uneven heating of that inner door glass. Deposits or spills on the inner door glass could have resulted in unusual stress that resulted in the breakage. A problem with proper leveling and racking (the cabinet of the range must be square and not twisted or tilted when installed in the cabinet) of the range can put stress on the door and glass that can result in that failure. If the oven door was disassembled and/or repaired in the past, then the components may not have been reassembled properly. The original factory assembly of the door could have been incorrect. There could have been a defect in the inner door glass that finally caused the breakage during that self clean cycle.

I hope that this information helps. I recommend that you have a service technician replace the glass and examine the range. You can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

If you replace that glass yourself, be sure that the door is reassembled correctly. You can order that glass from the Sears PartsDirect website. The image below shows the parts drawing of that oven door. You can use that information as a guide for reassembling the door if necessary. Check the leveling of the range if your replace that glass yourself. If you need more help, let us know.

Q:

Change the door latch on oven door.

A:

The oven door lock motor assembly is on the back of the range. It is connected to the hook at the front of the range with a rod. That component is shown in the first image below. If that is the component that you are replacing and you still need to order that part, you can buy it online from this link: Lock Motor for Frigidaire Range PLES389DCC . Shut off the house circuit breakers and remove that back panel as shown in the first image to access and replace that door lock motor assembly.

If you have a mechanical failure with that latch hook at the front of the range and need to change that component, then you can use the information shown in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th images to access that hook. Be sure that you shut off the house circuit breakers to completely disconnect electrical power to the range before accessing internal components.

These tips may help you complete this repair. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
