Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my GE Profile dishwasher run after sitting idle for 3 months?

A:

I must assume water will enter and it will pump out too. Based on your symptom, the wash/circulation motor impeller seals are likely stuck because the water has evaporated from the sump causing the impeller water seals to dry out stick. When this happens it can prevent the wash motor from starting. You can try to manually rotate the cooling fins on the end of the wash motor to break the seal loose.

Remove the lower access panel and you will see the end of the motor facing you. (See image below) There will a cooling fan attached to the motor shaft. Stick a pencil into the end of the motor housing and manually rotate the cooling fan using the pencil. Once the fan can be rotated freely, the wash motor will likely start and run. NOTE: Do not have the dishwasher ON while manually spinning the cooling fan.
