Question and Answers

Q:

How do I remove a damaged pulley from the drive shaft of my Maytag washer model PAV5157AWW?

A:

The description of the drive pulley and the procedure for replacing it is provided in the image below. The pulley will come off of the drive shaft. I normally recommend having a service technician repair this type of washer failure. If you are able to follow the steps in the technical information below, you may be able to replace the pulley yourself. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full serial number of your Maytag washer (the serial number is needed on this type of washer to identify specific parts used on this model).

Q:

maytag pav5157aww washer.spin cycke awful noise,at times will no spin unless started by hand and now leaks. can i fix?t

A:

Thank you for the question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the washer. If the washer was making a noise in spin, I suspect it was coming from the tub bearing. The tub bearing will make a grinding or growling noise when it is going bad. Then eventually it will get bad enough that the washer will leak and the bearing can lock up. By what you have stated, this is what I suspect happened. To replace the bearing and seal kit the washer has to be completely disassembled and requires some special tools. I recommend having a service technician do this repair. I have checked on the cost of the bearing and seal and total cost is $160.00 and roughly $150.00 for labor. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Depending on the condition of the washer, you might want to consider purchasing a new washer. Please click on this link to view the washers we have to offer.
