Question and Answers

Q:

washing maching making buzzing sound and doing nothing. need repair help

A:

Your details seem to indicate that the drive motor is trying to start but is just buzzing. The click is probably the overload circuit breaker on that motor that "opens" electrically to interrupt that circuit and protect that drive motor. You could have a bad drive motor or a problem with the drive system. See if the motor will start and run in the agitation portion of the cycle. If the motor will not run in the agitation mode, then you could unplug the washer and access the motor coupler. Here is a video that shows how to access that component. Your console will have screws on that back side to release it. You can remove that motor coupler and see if the washer motor will run when it is not connected to the transmission. You can place a jumper wire in the lid switch harness as shown at the bottom of the image that I posted below. That will allow you to carefully plug in the washer and run the motor with that cabinet removed. NOTE: You should only conduct this test if you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely complete it. Use extreme caution when operating the washer with that cabinet removed. Once you determine whether the motor will run when disconnected from the motor coupler, unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power. Do not make contact with internal wires or components when testing that washer motor with the cabinet removed . If that motor will not run when disconnected form the motor coupler, then you will probably need to replace that motor. You can order parts from this page: Amana Washer Model NTW5640TQ0 Parts . Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing and replacing internal components.

If that motor does run when disconnected from the motor coupling then you could have a bad transmission or a number of other drive system problems. Reply with additional details if you need more help with this problem.
