Question and Answers

Q:

I have Kenmore elite side by side m#106.58962700 ref. and ice maker not woking

A:

Since the sensor board has a burned spot, it is almost certainly bad and will need to be replaced. According to the picture that you sent, it looks like it is burnt. If you want to test the board, you can use the self-diagnostic test. Re-install the control board and see if the light blinks twice, pauses and repeats when the door is open and the flapper on the left side is blocking the emitter beam then the control board may be okay. Push in the flapper so that the beam is not blocked and see if the light turns solid. If it does then this also normally indicates that the control board is okay. If it does not pass this diagnostic test then the emitter and receiver boards will need to be replaced. Part 4389102 is a kit that has both control boards (emitter and receiver). You can order that kit from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If the control board is suspected to be good, then you can manually fill the ice maker and see if it will cycle within a few hours. If the ice maker does not cycle then you still have a problem with the control boards and/or the ice maker module.

I provided a wiring diagram of the refrigerator in the image below with the black and the black/white wires that you are jumping on the receiver board harness traced in red and green. I hope that this gives you a better understanding of what you were jumping according to the expert instructions that you received. I recommend that you unplug the refrigerator and replace the ice maker in the freezer. Make sure that the wire harness is plugged in properly. Place the insulated jumper wire in the black and the black/white positions on the receiver board wiring harness as previously directed. This will constantly supply the ice maker module with power. If the ice maker cycles properly after a few hours then that module is okay. Replacing the emitter and receiver control boards should fix your problem. If the ice maker does not cycle properly on its own then it will need to be replaced.

I don't recommend that you leave that insulated jumper wire in the receiver control board wiring harness longer than necessary to test the ice maker module.

This should help you resolve this problem. If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Q:

I have a gold star ref w/ice maker. The red light that is part of Ice maker on off switch is blinking.

A:

If this is a side-by-side Whirlpool Gold refrigerator then the red light blinking on the right side of the freezer wall by the ice maker on/off switch is normal when the freezer door is open. That blinking light indicates that the level sensing beam for the ice maker system is blocked (by the flapper door on the left side emitter control board).

If the ice maker is working properly, then the blinking light is normal.

If you have a different type of refrigerator or you need more help, reply with additional details and the full model number of your refrigerator.

Q:

I need appl. specs for a ref and oven 79575543401 79047773403

A:

The exact measurements for the refrigerator are not available but here are the measurements of an almost identical newer model that should be the same as yours:

  • Height with hinge: 69.75"
  • Height without hinge: 68 3/8"
  • Depth with handle: 34 3/8"
  • Depth without handle: 31.75"
  • Width: 35.75"

The installation instructions recommend that you have 2" of clearance above the refrigerator and 1" of clearance on each side of the refrigerator for ventilation.

Here is a link for the full installation guide on the oven that has the height and cut-out specifications that you need: Installation Instructions .
