No spin

Hi Mark,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life. I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

Your washer does have a pressure switch. I am including the wiring diagram below. I have marked the pressure switch for you.

Before we go any further, your washer should be giving an error code when it shuts down. This washer has a test routine that will display stored error codes. If the control detects a problem it will identify it with an error code. I am including this information below.

Starting Service History (error code history) Mode & Diagnostic Test: NOTE: The washer must be empty and the control must be in the OFF state before pressing the touch-pad sequence to start the test.

Close the door.

Select any one key (except PAUSE/ CANCEL) and follow the steps below, using the same key (remember the key):

  1. Press/hold 4 seconds.
  2. Release for 4 seconds.
  3. Press/hold 4 seconds.
  4. Release for 4 seconds.
  5. Press/hold 4 seconds.
Upon release, all console LED lights will turn on for 5 seconds. If there are any failure codes (error codes), they will be displayed in the Estimated Time Remaining display.

Please perform the diagnostic tests detailed here and report back with your findings. Be sure to record any failures and when they occur along with any error codes that are displayed. I am looking forward to assisting you again in the near future.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Hi Mark, The diagnostic test I sent you should show stored error codes before the diagnostic routine starts. That is what I am most interested in. Landell

Hi Mark, This is an advanced washing machine with the latest technology. Therefore it is complicated to diagnose and repair. This is not one of the washers that I get very many complaints on. I do not recommend replacing parts without performing the prescribed checks. This issue could be caused by the MCU, wiring harness, wiring connections, grounding switches, motor, pressure switch, pressure switch hose, reverse polarity at the wall outlet/terminal block, drain pump, siphoning, and the list goes on. The diagnosis of this issue will require the use of an ohm/volt meter and you will have to perform ohm checks and/or live voltage checks. If you have an ohm/volt meter and are confident in your technical abilities, please reply below and I will be happy to give you the checks. I highly recommend having a trained service technician evaluate this problem. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Below is a link for the website. The F11 is a MOTOR CONTROL UNIT ERROR. The Motor Control Unit has internal failure; repeating under or over voltage or over current conditions. If failure occurs during high-speed spin the door unlocks after 3 minutes. 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check wire harness connections between the drive motor and the Motor Control Unit (MCU), and between the MCU and the Central Control Unit (CCU). Check the motor and do a continuity test. 3. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 4. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 5. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 6. Replace MCU board. The F28 is a SERIAL COMMUNICATION ERROR. The communication between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU) cannot be sent correctly. 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check wire harness connections to the MCU, the motor, and Central Control Unit (CCU). Check connections of the CCU board within the housing. Make sure all grounding switches are engaged.

3. Check the drive system for any worn or failed components. 4. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 5. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle. 6. Check the MCU by looking for operations of the drive motor. 7. Check the drive motor for powered rotations. 8. Check that the serial harness at the MCU is not mounted upside down. The wires should be to the left when facing the MCU connectors. The F20 is a NO WATER DETECTED ENTERING MACHINE OR PRESSURE SWITCH TRIP NOT DETECTED. The pressure switch is not tripped after 6 minutes. If there is no water in the unit: Make sure that both valves at the water source(s) are turned on all the way. Check for plugged or kinked inlet hoses or plugged screens in the inlet valves. Verify inlet valve operation. If there is water in the unit: Verify drain pump operation. Verify that the pressure switch hose is in good condition and properly connected to tub and pressure switch. 1. Verify there is not a siphon problem. 2. Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display. The machine will drain for 3minutes before unlocking the door. 3. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 4. Verify wire harness connections to inlet valves, pressure switch, drain pump and Central Control Unit (CCU). 5. Check all hoses for possible leaks. 6. Plug in washer or reconnect power. 7. Verify pressure switch operation. 8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle. Please check the things I have detailed here and report back with your findings. I am looking forward to assisting you again in the near future. Thanks again for using Manage My Life. Landell
