Question and Answers

Q:

I have a maytag gas range (model MGS5770ADB) & the stove top igniters stopped clicking. I can light manually. What part needs to be replaced? & where is it?

A:

The wiring diagram for this range is shown in the first image below. Your details imply that none of the burner switches will cause the igniters to spark on the cook top. A wiring failure in the circuit (traced in red and green) could cause this problem. A failed spark module could also prevent any of the igniters from sparking. If one burner switch is closed to complete the circuit, all of the burners should spark. Since none of the burner switches work, this is what indicates that your failure is likely in the traced circuit or the spark igniter module. If you are able to access the wiring and the spark module, you can check for a loose or broken wire. If you find no wiring problems, replacing the spark module will likely fix this problem. I provided some general disassembly procedures for a Maytag gas range. Your range may not look exactly like the one shown below. Be sure that you unplug the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing internal components and wiring. The typical location of the spark module is shown in the second image below. This may or may not be the location on your range.

If needed, you can order a spark module from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the spark module is 8215557.
