Question and Answers

Q:

maytag dryer mde2400ayw

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The "E3" error code implies a door circuit failure. Check for a faulty door switch or faulty door circuit failure. To access the control and door switch; disconnect the power cord from the power source and then remove the two screws along the back of the top and remove top. I added a couple of images below with the basic instructions on how to access the door switch and control board.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Testing Dryer Motor for MDE2400AYW MDE2400AYW Maytag Maytag laundry

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The Ohm checks of the motor should be close enough for the motor to start and run. You did not indicate what the failure is with the dryer. Below is some possible failures.

Will not start or run:
  •  All wires are hooked up to their corresponding terminals.
  •  Dryer is plugged in.
  •  Blown fuse or circuit breaker.
  •  Door switch functional...door closed. Check for error code 3 (See Tech Sheet for code definition).
  •  Start/Pause switch functional.
  •  Control Board operational.
  •  Drive motor functional.
  •  Check motor capacitor.
Runs a few minutes and then stops:
  •  Lint buildup around drive motor.
  •  Low voltage present.
  •  Blower impeller blocked in blower housing.
  •  Drive motor - start switch contacts stuck closed.

I hope this helpful.

Q:

Why is my Maytag dryer giving a 3E error?

A:

The 3E error code indicates a motor problem. If you have a volt/ohm meter and are comfortable working around live electricity I can give you a few checks that will help you diagnose the problem. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. If you are not already sure you can perform these checks safely and competently, refer this work to a qualified professional. Working with live electrical current can be very hazardous and possibly deadly. Testing voltage output requires working with electrical current. Do not attempt these measurements without the proper tools and safeguards.

I have included a set of illustrated instructions (See below). These should step you through the process of disassembling your dryer and testing the motor. If the motor tests outside of the ranges listed, replace the motor. If the motor ohms correctly, replace the main control board. Note: If possible ohm the motor from the control board.

I have included a link that you may use for parts purchases; please click the following Sears Parts Direct

If you require further assistance please resubmit question with details of the checks you have made. I will be looking forward to helping you again in the near future.
