Question and Answers

Q:

My mdbh979aww3 dishwasher touch panel doesn't light, won't latch, and when I manually activate the switch, it still won't start (or even light up).

A:

Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

From your description you most likely have a bad console and a bad latch assembly. I am including the console/touchpad checks in the image below. This testing information will help you determine which part (console or control board) needs to be replaced.

Here is a video that details Control board and Touchpad replacement. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. This video is for demonstration purposes only. This dishwasher may not look exactly like yours, but the procedure is basically the same.

Make sure the door seal is not keeping the door from closing all the way. If that looks good I recommend replacing the latch.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Dishwasher MDBH979AWW3; won't start; cycle selection button and other selection button work/light up; door switch OK ; is control panel or timer module bad?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I would not be able to say which is faulty without making some voltage checks and I do not recommend making voltage checks unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so.

If the control panel will power up and it accepts commands when the buttons are pushed then I would double check the door switch operation. I added a wiring diagram in the image below with some troubleshooting steps. There must be proper voltage at the control board when measuring across P2 and P8 and also across P2 and P6 when the door is shut. There must also be voltage across P4 and P8 and across P4 and P8. If one of the two door switches is not closing and completing the path of voltage to the control board, the dishwasher is not going to start. NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltage unless you have experience and you feel confident and safe in doing so; otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dishwasher.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
