Hi Trish,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am sorry you are having problems with your washer.

Most likely you have sticking water valves or a bad pressure switch. Proper diagnosis of this issue will require the use of an ohm/volt meter and you will have to perform ohm checks and/or live voltage checks. If you have a meter and are confident in your ability to safely perform these checks, reply to this post and I will be happy to assist you in any way I can.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.

Q:

I have a Maytag washer bought in 2003, model MAV9657EWW. It will fill, wash, drain, but won't spin.

A:

Check to see if the motor is spinning in the reverse direction from the agitation mode in that spin portion of the cycle. If the motor is spinning in the "spin" direction then you could have a problem with the brake not releasing. That would cause the washer to agitate in the opposite direction from the normal agitation mode. The image below shows information about the operation of that transmission in the spin mode. That information may help you check those components in the drive system. NOTE: There have been some revisions in the parts for this washer. Your washer may be slightly different than the one shown in the image below.

If the motor is turning in the agitation direction then you could have a problem with the timer or the motor switch.

These general tips may help you resolve that spin problem in your washer. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details including the serial number of the washer. That serial number will help us see the revision of that washer that you have.

This washer can be difficult to diagnose and repair. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
