Sorry it took so long to respond to your question. I see that you replaced the heating element and your dryer is working correctly again. Normally if a dryer heating element comes on when the dryer is not running, it is an issue with the wiring, heater or motor. Since you checked continuity across the motor centrifugal switch and got an infinite reading you were able to narrow the issue down to the heating element. Good job! You could have checked continuity from each heater terminal to cabinet (with the dryer unplugged and the heating element disconnected) you would have most likely had continuity on at least one terminal. That would have been the way to determine for sure the heater was the issue.
