Q:

DYT 4000 Lawn Tractor Slipping when moving forward or uphill

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. If the tractor starts to slip, I recommend hooking your foot under the brake pedal and pull back. If the tractor starts to drive fine when you have it pulled back, I recommend checking the brake/clutch return spring. The spring should pull the pedal back and tighten the belt. The spring is connected to the clutch idler arm on one end and to the front of the frame on the other. If the spring is missing that is the problem. If the spring is in place, I recommend checking for binding in the idler arm or brake pedal. To ensure it is operating correctly you can lube the pivots with WD-40. Then work the pedal to confirm it is not binding.

If pulling back on the pedal does not cure the problem, I suspect the issue is in the transaxle. I recommend checking the fluid level in the unit first. The image below shows how to check the fluid level. Click on the image to enlarge it. If the unit is low, follow the instructions for adding fluid to the unit. After adding fluid, you need to purge the air out of it. The instructions for purging the transaxle are posted in the second image.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
