Question and Answers

Q:

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II (Model # LSQ9549LW3) doesn't drain properly. It does spin and water drains from tub during spin but not when it should.

A:

Hi Lebenny,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am sorry you are having problems with your washer.

From your description and updates most likely you have a timer or wiring issue. Some washers will not drain and spin with a bad lid switch, this washer will not run the motor at all if the lid switch is bad. So we know the lid switch is working.

If the washer agitates in one cycle but not in another most likely it is a timer issue. You also stated that the washer completed one cycle but will only fill in others. This is also most likely is a timer issue. The only way to be sure is testing voltages. The diagnosis of this issue will require the use of an ohm/volt meter and you will have to perform ohm checks and/or live voltage checks. If you have an ohm/volt meter and are confident in your technical abilities, please reply below and I will be happy to give you the checks.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.

Hi Lebenny, The only way to be sure is to ohm the motor windings and check voltages. I never rule out any components until proper testing is done. I was simply stating that the most likely issue would be the timer, however I would not commit myself to that without diagnostic proof. At this point I recommend having a trained technician with the diagnostic tools needed evaluate your washer. I added a link below that you may use if you would like a Sears tech to come to your home. Hi Lebenny, That does not sound like normal operation, but the only way to be sure is to do further checks. As I stated previously I am not committing myself to guessing. You can obtain an ohm/volt meter at most major hardware stores including Sears for around $20.00. Landell

Q:

Can 2-speed Washer motor burn out at one speed but not the other?

A:

Hi Lebenny,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

Yes it is possible for one winding to work and another to not. But as I have told you in your previous questions it can also be a bad timer or bad wiring.

The ONLY way to know for sure is to use an ohm/volt meter and perform the proper testing. I am giving you the wiring diagram and motor winding ohm values for this washer below. Ohm the motor, and if the windings read close to the values given below, you will then need to check continuity of the wires between the motor and the timer. If the motor windings are good and the wires are intact, you may then safely assume the timer is bad. If the windings are out 10 percent (+/-) then the motor most likely needs to be replaced. If one or more of the wires read open, you will need to repair or replace the wire(s).

Also, here are links to your previous questions on this washer;

  1. Whirlpool Ultimate Care II (Model # LSQ9549LW3) doesn't drain properly. It does spin and water drains from tub during spin but not when it should.
  2. Is the motor broken on a direct drive washing machine if it will spin but not drain? .

Please perform the diagnostic tests detailed here and report back with your findings.

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.
