How to determine if washer bearings are bad?

From your description this is most likely due to bad bearings. To check the spider bearing on the washer spin basket, take these steps:

  1. Open the washer door.
  2. With the basket empty, push upward on the spin basket inside the washer tub to check for play.
  3. Rotate the spin basket a few degrees and repeat the above step.
  4. Continue checking the tub around the full 360 degrees of the basket.
  5. And then finally spin the basket all the way around while feeling for grinding.
If you detect a section of the basket where you have significantly more play or if you feel a grinding sensation, then it is likely that you have a worn out set of bearings or a bad spin basket. If the spin basket seems okay (does not have lateral motion), you most likely have a problem with the rear tub shell bearing. Checking and replacing this bearing is a complicated procedure that I recommend calling a service technician for.

icemaker is not working

A:

I am not aware of a facility or location that will be able to test those parts effectively since they are not installed in the refrigerator. The ice maker assembly (part W10122559) may be okay. The ice maker gets power from the main control board. Based on your description, you could have a problem with that main control board. The power that is provided to the refrigerator in Brazil should be 120 volts and 60 Hz. The supply in some parts of Brazil should comply with that requirement but some areas use 230 volt power. If you are in an area with the 230 volt power supply and you are using a converter, the control board may be damaged or may not work properly. Even if you are in an area that has 120 volt power, you may experience power surges through the electrical line that can affect the performance of the control board. We normally advise against taking that type of refrigerator out of the country for use in another area. Since you already have the refrigerator in place and most of the features are working except the ice maker, I recommend that you wait to test that component until it can be re-installed in the refrigerator and tested while it is in place. We can provide you with better testing information while the ice maker is installed instead of trying to test that ice maker outside of the refrigerator. If you want to take some spare parts with you, I recommend that you take an ice maker assembly (part W10122559) and the Gemini control board (part W10267646). If you can get those parts within a reasonable time span after diagnosing your failure, then you don't necessarily have to take them with you. Once you re-install the ice maker, you will need to complete some diagnostic tests. The first image below shows how to start the diagnostic test program. Using that program, you can check the ice maker fill (test 18), the ice bin level sensor (19) and the ice bin thermistor (temperature sensor) which is test 20. If the ice maker will fill during that test then the wiring through that circuit marked on the wiring diagram in the second image is okay. If it won't fill, then you could have a problem with that circuit, the smart valve, the ice maker assembly or the wiring in that smart valve circuit. You may need to have a service technician in Brazil use the technical information provided to check that ice maker assembly. If you need more help, reply with additional details based on the tests described above.

NOTE: If you access and check components on your own, be sure that you unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal components.
