Question and Answers

Q:

Why is my KitchenAid refrigerator model KSRW25CRSS01 making a knocking sound?

A:

It is often difficult to predict the cause of a knocking noise in a refrigerator without physically hearing it or having more details. I assume that the noise is happening when the compressor is running on the refrigerator. You did not mention whether the knocking sound is intermittent or constant. If the knocking sound occurs when the compressor starts or shuts off, it could be a mounting spring in the compressor motor that is bad. This could also cause it to knock constantly in some situations. If the knocking is loud and apparently coming from the compressor, I recommend having it serviced by a technician. According to your owner's manual, the sealed system (that includes the compressor) is covered for parts and labor for 5 years. Sealed system parts are covered for 10 years. If the compressor is bad, it should be covered by the warranty.

I cannot determine whether the knocking noise is coming from the compressor based on your description. There are some normal noises that may make a knocking like sound. Review your owner's manual for the normal noise section. If the knocking noise is not loud and obviously being caused by a bad compressor then it could be normal if the refrigerator is cooling properly.
