Q:

Problem with my GE spacemaker microwave?

A:

A number of different problems could prevent your microwave from heating. You could have a problem with the control board, a bad high voltage transformer or failed magnetron. I don't recommend that you attempt to repair this type of failure yourself. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. They contain high voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. That is why we recommend that you have this type of problem repaired by a service technician. Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it: Sears Home Services .

Due to the likely cost of repair, it is normally more practical to replace the microwave instead of repairing it. Here is a Sears.com link for a current microwave model that is moderately priced: Kenmore 30 in. Microhood Combination - 8503 .

Q:

Repaired Microwave

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Arcing can occur whenever two pieces of metal are touching. Arcing can also occur if there is any food splattered inside the oven cavity and it becomes carbonized from the microwave energy. Make sure the wire rack is position so it does not touch the walls inside the oven cavity or it will cause sparking. Use the shelf only when reheating on more than one level.

Arcing can also occur if the stir blade is damaged or hitting the sides. Look for any burnt/carbonized food in the oven cavity and clean it off and could stop arcing.

I added the Owner's Manual which covers the does and don't when using the rack.

I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. That's why I strongly warn you to have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.

Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.
